Joint Keynote: Bridging Emotional and Strategic Insights: Supporting Families Navigating Wealth and Legacy with Dr Pavlo Kanellakis & Dr Tiran Takhar-Purewal

Abstract: The complexities of wealth and legacy often present unique challenges for families, intertwining emotional dynamics with strategic decision-making. This presentation explores a multidisciplinary approach that integrates counselling psychology with principles of family business advising. Drawing on a foundation built through a doctorate in counselling psychology and specialised training in Family Business Advising from the Family Firm Institute (FFI), the discussion will focus on addressing emotional challenges, fostering resilience, and enhancing intergenerational communication within family systems.
Participants will gain insights into how relational dynamics impact governance, succession planning, and financial decision-making. Emphasising the interplay between family relationships and wealth, the presentation highlights the role of counselling psychologists in facilitating thoughtful, collaborative discussions about values, goals, and long-term aspirations. By bridging emotional and strategic considerations, this approach aims to promote harmony and sustainability in families navigating the complexities of their shared legacy. This session will provide actionable strategies and frameworks for counselling psychologists working with high-net-worth families or those managing intergenerational transitions.
